You may not have heard much
about the Clear Lake Campus Promotions Committee, but signs of it’s
success can be seen all over campus.
The Clear Lake Campus Promotions Committee is an informal group
that meets to brainstorm ideas on various ways to improve the campus.
The Committee includes campus dean Bryon Bell, instructors Jen Hanson
and Peggy Alexander, and many other members of the classified staff
and adjunct faculty.
“I find it really rewarding to work with administration, faculty,
and staff in a team effort to support the campus.” Hanson
said.
One of the main goals of the Promotions Committee is to improve
the community’s awareness of what CLC has to offer. Some of
the ideas that have been (or are in the process of being!) implemented
include the campus beautification project, cultural arts day, attending
the Judge’s Breakfast in Clearlake, a proposed scholarship
contest for high school students, the first graduation breakfast
held here last spring, high school visitations, and mailing the
fall schedule to local residents.
Campus dean Bryon Bell said that “getting a group of people
together with the commitment to the success of the campus and having
them brainstorm ideas on how to make our campus more visible in
the community has been very beneficial.”
How effective have the efforts been so far? The numbers speak for
themselves: The total enrollment at CLC has increased 11.6 percent
from fall 2003, and the percentage of new students (first time enrollments)
is up by an impressive 31.58 percent.
The committee is still meeting regularly and coming up with more
ideas in an effort to increase enrollment and improve the image
of the campus.
